As his name suggests, Drill Man is themed around drills, possessing one on each hand and another on top of his head. His weapon, the Drill Bomb, lets him fire exploding drills forward, and he is also able to dig and move underground.
In the Games
Mega Man 4
In Mega Man 4, Drill Man is one of the main eight Robot Master bosses and appears as the second-to-last choice (in reading order) on the stage select screen. His stage is entirely underground, taking place in a mine.
In battle, Drill Man's most prominent move is to turn invincible and drill into the ground, remaining hidden for some time until he eventually reemerges under Mega Man, forcing the latter to keep moving to avoid this attack. He is also able to jump towards Mega Man, or repeatedly fire his signature weapon while walking towards him, which shoots drills that block shots and explode when they hit a wall.
Drill Man's weakness is the Dive Missile from Dive Man, which deals 3 damage per hit, but can sometimes go around him and potentially be wasted due to its imprecise homing ability. Defeating him grants Mega Man the Drill Bomb and Rush Jet.
Mega Man X DiVE
He retain his digging and Drill Bomb abilities from Mega Man 4, but has an added power that allows him to become invincible while releasing several drills, which first go off the screen before slowly flying across in a complex grid of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. These lines are shown ahead of time by a network of pink lasers, allowing the player character to avoid them.
Battle Network era
Mega Man & Bass CD
In Mega Man & Bass, Drill Man's CD is located in Ground Man's stage, a very similarly themed Robot Master. It is found in a section with an advancing spike pillar, and requires a Spike Guard item to move through the pillar and obtain it.
Mega Man Legacy Collection Database
Drill Man appears under "Mega Man 4" in the Database in Mega Man Legacy Collection and is the third Robot Master listed for the game. Like other Robot Masters, he can be fought by pressing a designated button while viewing his data.
|Modified from a hole-digging robot originally used at construction sites. His tendency to drill underground is annoying.|
