Bubble Man (or Bubbleman) is a Robot Master first appearing in Mega Man 2. He is one of the eight Robot Masters built by Dr. Wily to get revenge after his initial defeat in the first Mega Man, making him part of the first batch to be built entirely by Wily.
Bubble Man is a water-themed green and white (or green and blue) robot wearing a scuba diving suit. His signature weapon is the Bubble Lead, which allows him to create large bubbles from a device on his helmet, and he is also able to fire dangerous water jets from his arm cannon.
In the Games
Mega Man 2
In Mega Man 2, Bubble Man is one of the main bosses that can be selected from the start and the first one listed on the stage select screen, in reading order. His stage is set by a waterfall and features a prominent underwater section, a first for the series.
Bubble Man is fought in a room that is completely underwater, with deadly mines on the ceiling, though these are missing from his rematch in Dr. Wily stage 5. In battle, he fights by throwing two or three large bubbles from his signature weapon, Bubble Lead, then swimming across the room at a shallow angle while rapidly shooting water jets straight forward. The bubbles bounce and deal 4 damage to Mega Man, while the water jets deal 2; neither can be destroyed, requiring Mega Man to dodge between them.
Bubble Man's main weakness is the Metal Blade, which deals 4 damage per blade (8 on Normal difficulty), though he also takes 2 (4) damage from the Quick Boomerang and Crash Bomber. Other special weapons deal no damage, while his own weapon will restore his health completely if used against him. Defeating him allows Mega Man to get equipped with Bubble Lead, which creates bubbles that glide across the floor rather than bouncing when used by him.
Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge
In Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, Bubble Man is one of the Robot Masters fought in the teleporter room at the end of the first Dr. Wily stage, being found in the top-right teleporter. Like the other Robot Masters returning from Mega Man 2, he does not have his own stage, with the teleporter leading directly to his boss battle instead. His boss room is filled with water, indicated by quickly flashing the sprites to fake translucency, making it the only place where water is found in this game.
Due to the absence of Metal Blade and Crash Bomber, Bubble Man's only remaining weakness is the Quick Boomerang, which deals only 2 damage per shot; other special weapons deal 1 damage (Rolling Cutter, Ice Slasher) or none at all (all others), making him unusually resistant. Despite the battle not ending the stage, Mega Man still receives the Bubble Lead weapon by defeating him.
