Ladder Press is an enemy appearing in Mega Man 4. It consists of two halves of a machine - one with three spikes and another with two - that move along ladders and are able to snap together.
In the Games
Mega Man 4
In Mega Man 4, Ladder Presses are only found in Dr. Cossack's citadel, specifically appearing in Dr. Cossack stage 1 and 2. They are always placed on ladders, slowly moving up or down and regularly stopping to join their two halves together, hurting Mega Man if he is caught between them. After a short time, the press opens again, continuing to move up or down depending on Mega Man's position. Even if the Ladder Press is not closed, it will still harm Mega Man if he moves into it from the side, which makes jumping off or onto a ladder more difficult.
Ladder Presses are invincible to all methods of attack, and Mega Man's shots will bounce off of them.
Mega Man III
Ladder Presses return in Mega Man III on the Game Boy, acting identically, but no longer being limited to the fortress stages. They appear in Snake Man's stage and Dr. Wily stage 2.
Related Enemies
Other ladder-based enemies are found in the Classic era and X era, though they are rare and none share the Ladder Press's behaviour.
- Jamacy (Mega Man 3) - Moves up and down on a ladder. Some are also able to walk along the ground.
- Ladder Yadder (Mega Man X) - Moves up and down on a ladder.
