The Boss is often the final enemy of a stage, area or something similar.
They often work under the game's main antagonist, Chill Penguin working with Sigma in Mega Man X.
They sometimes have their own goals, separate from the game's main antagonist such as Proto Man working with Dr. Wily in Mega Man 5.
