Cut Man (カットマン) is a Robot Master who first appeared in the original Mega Man. He is an industrial robot who was built by Dr. Light to work in lumberyards, but he was stolen by Dr. Wily and reprogrammed for evil. Cut Man has since had many appearances throughout the Classic era, especially in spin-off games and other media. His role as one of Dr. Light's original robots causes him to be featured both as a villain and a friend to Mega Man.
In the Games
Mega Man
In Mega Man, and its port in The Wily Wars, Cut Man is one of the six Robot Masters on the Stage Select screen. He is fought in Cut Man Stage. He was created by Dr. Light for woodcutting purposes, before being kidnapped and reprogrammed by Dr. Wily. His serial number is DLN-003.[2]
Cut Man fights by tossing the scissors on his head like a boomerang, while jumping around the room. Defeating him unlocks his Special Weapon, the Rolling Cutter. His weakness is the Super Arm, which can destroy him in two hits using both of the stone blocks found in his boss room. He is also very vulnerable to the Mega Buster, which deals more damage to him than to any other boss in the game and pushes him backwards. A boss attack rematch with Cut Man later occurs in Wily Stage 2.
Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge
In Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, Cut Man is one of the first four Robot Masters on the Stage Select screen. He has been rebuilt by Dr. Wily to fight Mega Man again.[3] He dwells in a new Cut Man Stage. He behaves the same as his original appearance, except he does not take knockback from attacks. He again grants Rolling Cutter upon his defeat, though his weakness is now Fire Storm instead.
Mega Man Soccer
In Mega Man Soccer, Cut Man is one of the game's soccer players. He has good speed and tackle strength, but his defense is low. His special move is the Rolling Cutter Shot, which can slash through the target.
In Capcom Cup mode, a team of eight Cut Men is one of the eight opponents that Mega Man's team must defeat. In Tournament mode, he has his own team and field, known as the Cut Field. In Exhibition mode, the player can select him as a player on their team.
Mega Man: The Power Battle & The Power Fighters
In Mega Man: The Power Battle, Cut Man is one of the six Robot Masters on the Stage Select screen of the "Mega Man 1~2" course. He was rebuilt by Dr. Wily to take over the world again.[4] He fights by throwing his scissors, like in his original appearance. His Special Weapon is Rolling Cutter, and his weakness is Leaf Shield instead of Super Arm.
In Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Cut Man is one of the six Robot Masters on the Stage Select screen of the "Rescue Roll" story. He was again rebuilt by Dr. Wily to fight Mega Man.[4] He fights the same as in the previous title, though he can also cut holes in the background and climb through in order to teleport, and when at low health his scissors become larger. His Special Weapon is still Rolling Cutter, and this time his weakness is Slash Claw.
Mega Man 8
Exclusively in the Sega Saturn version of Mega Man 8, Cut Man can be fought as a secret boss in the Middle Stage. He teleports into the room and claims he wants revenge on Mega Man for defeating him the last time they fought. He fights similarly to his original appearance, and is weak to Astro Crush. Upon his defeat, he explodes and drops a hidden Bolt, which can be acquired without a fight in other versions of the game.
Several toys of Cut Man can also be seen in Amusement Park Stage.
Super Adventure Rockman
In Super Adventure Rockman, Cut Man has reformed as an ally and now works for Dr. Light. He and the other five DLN robots follow Mega Man to assist his mission in the Lanfront Ruins.
Cut Man is the first one to rendezvous with Mega Man, giving him a Data Card with a Special Weapon before splitting up again. From this point on, Cut Man can appear to save Mega Man and give the player another chance if they lose during the battles with Metal Man, Flash Man, or Top Man. He and the other DLN also appear in the game's ending.
Mega Man Powered Up
In the remake Mega Man Powered Up, Cut Man plays largely the same role as in the original Mega Man. He was created to help cut down trees for the lumber industry, and the scissors on his head are made of heavy-duty ceratanium. Rock witnesses his kidnapping by Dr. Wily, alongside the other bosses, before setting out to stop him.
When faced in Cut Man Stage, Cut Man is a naive but well-meaning soul who has been reprogrammed to believe that Mega Man is evil and must be stopped. He fights the same as in the original game, being weak to Super Arm and yielding Rolling Cutter upon his defeat.
If the player defeats him using the Mega Buster in New Style, Cut Man is unlocked as a playable character. He uses the Rolling Cutter as his main attack, and has the unique ability to wall jump off of vertical surfaces.
