Iris (アイリス) is a supporting character in the X era who first appeared in Mega Man X4. She is the younger sister of Colonel who works as an operator for Repliforce. After being rescued by Zero in the Sky Lagoon incident, she tries to stop Colonel and Zero from fighting.
In the Games
Mega Man X4
Iris debuted in Mega Man X4, first appearing at the end of Zero's investigation of the ruins of Sky Lagoon. Having been kidnapped from Repliforce headquarters by Eregion, Iris is left disheveled on the ground until she is found by Zero.[2] He ensures her safety before moving on to destroy Eregion himself. After being saved by Zero, Iris began developing romantic feelings for him.[3][4]
Iris is then present in Hunter H.Q. on Zero's Stage Select screen, urging Zero not to fight Colonel and showing concern as he battles Repliforce. When Zero and Colonel duel at Memorial Hall, Iris interrupts their fight by reminding Colonel that Zero saved her life. The two begrudgingly recognize the favor and end their battle, but Iris worries as they both voice their convictions as they depart.
Once all eight bosses are defeated, Zero ignores Iris' pleas and confronts Colonel again at the Space Port, this time destroying him in battle. When he returns, Iris has left Hunter H.Q., having rushed to Colonel's remains to recover his Core Crystal.
Iris then travels to the Final Weapon, where she appears before Zero holding the Core Crystal. Broken-hearted, Iris claims she must avenge her brother and fuses with the Core Crystal to form a Ride Armor-like battle armor. She loses control of its power, forcing Zero to fight her as a boss to stop her rampage. Mortally wounded in Zero's arms, Iris shares her dream to live with Zero in a world of only Reploids, before tragically passing away.
Mega Man Xtreme 2
Iris appeared retroactively in a prequel game, Mega Man Xtreme 2, where she is temporarily employed with the Maverick Hunters as part of her Repliforce training. However, she gets caught up in the Erasure incident on Laguz Island and ends up serving as the operator for both X and Zero during the game.[5] She occasionally communicates with the Hunters during cutscenes, mostly about the nature of DNA Souls and the plot of the Soul Erasers, and also runs the game's Parts menu. In Zero's ending, he mentions that he hopes Colonel won't be angry with him for getting Iris into such a difficult mission.
