Morph Moth, known as Metamor Mothmeanos (メタモル・モスミーノス) in Japan, is a Maverick from the X era, first appearing as one of the main bosses in Mega Man X2. He is a scrap-themed Reploid based on a moth, who evolves from a bagworm form into a flying menace. His history is unknown, but he is a prototype of a highly-advanced technology.
In the Games
Mega Man X2
Morph Moth debuted in Mega Man X2 as one of the eight Mavericks on the Stage Select screen. He is the boss of Robot Junkyard Stage. The Japanese manual states that he is a Reploid of unknown origin with highly-advanced circuitry that allows him to evolve by absorbing scrap, though he has a somewhat lazy disposition. He is using junk from the scrapyard to create Maverick soldiers.[1]
Morph Moth begins the battle in his bagworm form, which grows larger as it absorbs scrap from the arena. Once he is at half health, he evolves into his moth form and attacks from above. Defeating Morph Moth grants X the Silk Shot. His weakness is the Speed Burner, from Flame Stag, which wraps him in flames. A boss attack rematch with Morph Moth later occurs in X-Hunter Stage 4.
Mega Man Xtreme
In Mega Man Xtreme, Morph Moth returns as a digitized Maverick in the Mother Computer. He is one of the four bosses in Hard Mode, being the boss of Scrap Factory Stage. He again yields Silk Shot to X, but because Flame Stag is in Normal Mode, Moth is also weak to Armored Armadillo's Rolling Shield. Morph Moth is later part of the boss attack in Sigma Stage 3.
Other Game Appearances
- In Mega Man Xtreme 2, Morph Moth returns for the Boss Attack mode alongside the other Mega Man Xtreme bosses. His weakness is adjusted to Ray Claw/Rising.
- In TEPPEN, Morph Moth appears as a Unit Card.
Other Media
- In the Rockman X2 manga, Morph Moth reprises his role from Mega Man X.
- In Rockman X Mega Mission 3, Morph Moth is revived as Metamor Mothmeanos HL by the Limited, disguised as Grün Metamo.
- In the Archie Mega Man comic, Morph Moth appears in the "Worlds Unite" arc as one of the Mavericks resurrected in Sigma's army.
