Fire Wave (ファイヤーウェーブ)[1] is a Special Weapon first appearing in Mega Man X. It is obtained by defeating Flame Mammoth. It gives X a red and orange palette, and shoots a flamethrower from the buster.

In the Games

Mega Man X

Sprite from Mega Man X.

In Mega Man X, Fire Wave is obtained by defeating Flame Mammoth. X fires a short-ranged flamethrower that extends from his buster as long as the fire button is held. It can deal powerful prolonged damage, but is rendered completely useless underwater. Mammoth uses it is an attack in his boss battle, though his version launches single fireballs as opposed to the Special Weapon version.

Fire Wave deals 1 damage per hit, though it quickly stacks on prolonged contact. It is strong against Chill Penguin, dealing 3 damage and setting him ablaze. It costs 1 Weapon Energy to fire, though it consumes more as long as the button is held.

Fire Wave's Charge Shot drops a fireball, which erupts into a wall of flames when it hits the ground; this wall than crawls forwards along the ground until the floor ends at a drop or an obstacle. This deals 2 damage per hit and costs 2 Weapon Energy.

In Mega Man Xtreme 2, Fire Wave is again obtained by defeating Flame Mammoth. However, it functions completely differently, dropping a fireball that erupts into a wave along the ground similar to its previous Charge Shot. Its new Charge Shot causes six fireballs to randomly rain down across the screen.

Zero also learns this Special Weapon as a Technique. It functions exactly the same as X's, though the fireball emerges from his Z-Saber instead and it cannot be charged up.

In Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Fire Wave is again obtained by defeating Flame Mammoth. It functions identically to its appearance in Mega Man X.
