Behind the Scenes

Brain Break is an enemy first appearing in Mega Man 6. It consists of a mostly red robot head on feet, wearing glasses and a glass dome on its head that is fashioned after a graduation cap and contains a lightbulb-like component.

In the Games

Mega Man 6

in-game sprite.

In Mega Man 6, Brain Breaks are found near the end of the Capital of Science (Knight Man) stage and later reappear in Wily Stage 2. They start out by walking left and right, staying on top of their dedicated platform; however, if Mega Man attacks one, its glasses will fall off and its glass dome will break, sending it into a blind rage and causing it to move much faster. In this state, the Brain Break pursues Mega Man relentlessly and jumps when it gets to the edge of a platform or a wall, allowing it to circumvent obstacles. Any additional damage destroys it completely.

If Mega Man's first attack is with a charged Mega Buster shot, Power Mega Man punch or special weapon, the excess damage is usually absorbed and the Brain Break will get angry regardless, requiring another hit. However, Blizzard Attack or Beat will destroy it outright and prevent this transformation, making the enemy considerably less dangerous when using these weapons.

Other Appearances

Though it does not reappear as an enemy, statues of Brain Breaks can be seen in the Robot Museum stage of Mega Man 7, acting as parts of columns on the museum's outer wall.

Official Data

Brain Break appears under "Mega Man 6" in the Database in Mega Man Legacy Collection.

Brain Break
This robot possesses high intelligence, but attacking it will cause it to rampage. Its rampage is quite dangerous, so get some distance and fire again.

Trivia

  • Brain Break's gimmick of starting out peaceful but getting angry and more dangerous after the first hit makes it similar to the Wiggler enemies found throughout the Mario series.
