It has been 6 months since the destruction of Sigma and little has changed. The Maverick revolt started by Sigma is over, but Mega Man X and the new generation of Maverick Hunters have yet to destroy all of Sigma's followers.
Lead by information gained by Dr. Cain, Mega Man X and the rest of the Hunters have tracked the last of the Mavericks to an abandoned Reploid factory. There they hope to wipe out the last of the resistance. Little do they suspect that real war is about to begin...
MEGA MAN X2 VERSUS X-HUNTERS
It has been half a year after the fight with the strongest Maverick, Sigma... X's main mission is to deal with Sigma's remaining Mavericks.
Today, X and his fellow Maverick Hunters were ordered by Hunter Base to investigate and destroy a factory where Mavericks were supposedly being manufactured.
But this was nothing more than a prologue to a whole new battle for X...
Rockman X2 "Versus Counter Hunters"
Serges: This is their leader. His name is Mega Man X.[note 1] Violen: Those who underestimated him are now nothing but scrap. Agile: We won't make the same mistake. He is powerful, but he is blind to what is happening around him. Serges: Our Mavericks will keep him busy until we are ready. Agile: Yes. How is the plan proceeding? Serges: Collection is proceeding as scheduled. However, we are having problems with the control chip. Agile: We have little time. We must finish construction on schedule. We must hurry...
Serges: So that's X... well, he is impressive indeed. Violen: Hmph! He's no big deal. Agile: It's true that his abilities are dangerous. We must defeat him while we can... Serges: We should leave it to our men to deal with him. Agile: ...By the way, how long will it take for the Reploid to be completed...? Serges: The parts are almost complete... but the control circuit is not. Agile: We need that Reploid's power for our purposes. We must make haste...

Dr. Light: Mega Man X, enter the capsule. This enhancement will modify your X-Buster. With it you will be able to charge energy in both arms at once. This enables you to shoot a Double-Shot or to charge any weapon!
Dr. Light: X, enter this capsule. I will give you parts that will make your Charge Shot even more powerful. It's a Double Charge that lets you store energy in both hands and attack in succession. By charging your shots, you'll be able to unleash more powerful attacks!
Agile: I see now why Sigma fell at the hands of Mega Man X. He is quite formidable. Serges: I am not sure our Mavericks can hold him long enough. We may have to intervene. (Fade to X and Dr. Cain) Mega Man: Dr. Cain! what happened?! Dr. Cain: A group of Mavericks calling themselves the X-Hunters have just contacted us... Serges: Greetings. We have all of Zero's parts. Violen: They can be yours, if you can defeat us! Agile: We look forward to meeting you, X! Dr. Cain: X, Zero's control chip is still stored here. I doubt it is possible to resurrect him without it. Mega Man: Dr. Cain, I've got to get Zero's parts back at any cost!
Agile: ...Curse you, X! ...Well, he did defeat Lord Sigma, even if it was only once. Serges: We can't just leave this to our men... I suppose we'll have to take him out ourselves. Heheheh... (Fade to X and Dr. Cain) X: Dr. Cain! You wanted to see me, sir? Dr. Cain: I received a transmission from Mavericks calling themselves X-Hunters. Serges: Bzz... bzz... Mega... X... ...We have Zero's parts. If you want them back...[note 2] Agile: Please come and meet us one-on-one, X. Violen: If you can beat us, we'll let you keep Zero's parts! Agile: We look forward to it... X... Dr. Cain: I'll keep the control parts that manage Zero's behavior in this base. That way, they shouldn't be able to revive Zero so easily. Joined by his friend Zero, Mega Man X gazes out over the sea. Sigma has once again been destroyed, but X wonders if the fighting will truly end. Was Dr. Light's dream of a world in which reploids and humans lived together in peace merely a dream? The price of peace is often high, X thinks to himself. Who or what must be sacrificed for it to become reality? And when the time comes, will he be able to do it? The future holds the answers or...
X rescued his best friend, Zero, from the threat of Sigma, who had returned. His mission as a Hunter accomplished, the sea of the morning sun that he and Zero gaze upon now attempts to awaken X's distant memories. X ponders the reason for the burning power and warm comfort that flows in his cold body. Humans and machines. A peaceful world where two contrasting life forms coexist. This is the utopia that a scientist once hoped for. Will he ever learn of Dr. Light's wish for him? X. You may now rest the great power hidden within your small presence as you prepare for a new battle. He prays that this time of peace will not be a fleeting one...
