Zero (ゼロ) is a recurring protagonist and playable character in the Mega Man franchise. He first appeared as a deuteragonist in the X era, before starring in his own series in the Zero era, and being further referenced in the ZX era. He is a Reploid originally created by Dr. Wily for evil, who goes against his destiny and becomes a hero instead.

Zero is distinguished by his red, white, and yellow armor, horned helmet, long blond hair, and use of a beam saber called the Z-Saber.

In the Games

Classic era

In the Classic era, Zero is only mentioned retroactively. He never appears as a finished robot, though a cameo in Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters shows Dr. Wily is planning his construction.

X era

Zero debuted in Mega Man X, where he has lost his memory and instead works as a skilled SA-Class Maverick Hunter. He befriends X and constantly fights against the evil Sigma, learning more about his past along the way.

Zero era

Some time after the X era, Zero sealed himself away. He is awakened by Ciel centuries later in the Zero era, having lost most of his memories. He faces the new threat of Neo Arcadia and relearns his past role in the mysterious Elf Wars. By the end, he is willing to sacrifice his life to stop Dr. Weil and free humans and Reploids alike.

ZX era

Centuries after his death in the Zero era, six Biometal were created by Ciel to stop Model W. One of them was Model Z, which is based on Zero and carries his essence. Using it, a worthy Mega Man can Megamerge to tap into his power. Model Z is last seen sacrificing itself to stop the evil Mega Men aboard Ouroboros, leaving its whereabouts unknown.
