In the Games
Mega Man X5
Burn Dinorex debuts in Mega Man X5 as one of the eight Mavericks on the Stage Select screen. He is an illegal weapons manufacturer who owns the Booster Engine needed for the Space Shuttle. His attacks are deceptively fast for his large size, and he can cover the screen in fire attacks. Defeating Burn Dinorex grants Ground Fire to X and Quake Blazer to Zero. His weakness is the Wing Spiral or W-Shredder from Spiral Pegasus, which briefly stuns him in a tornado. A boss attack rematch with Burn Dinorex later occurs in Zero Space Stage 4: Birth.

Other Media

Previously a member of Repliforce's disaster response team. He was given command of a facility in Sunhouse Mountain, but secretly turned it into a private stockpile of weapons developed to run on magma energy. His intimidating Ground Fire weaponry spits a gout of searing flame that then sticks to the ground until it burns out. |
Behind the Scenes
- "Our third shot in the fantasy series. (grin) Our first, by the way, was X4's Dragoon. I think the fantasy series will be discontinued after this. (bitter laugh) There wasn't enough space for this character, and the designer in charge had a hard time creating him. To compensate, we gave him a comparative abundance of attack patterns. Sorry about that." - (Developer Comments)[3]
- "When I got the idea to have flames blowing out of his back, I felt the illustration seemed a lot cooler. I'm happy they gave him such a great name." - (SEITO, Designer Comments)[3]
- "Whale, Pegasus, and Dinorex were designed by Higurashi. They are simple yet refined, without a lot of unnecessary parts. Maybe it's just because I've been working on robots for so long, but my designs always seem to end up more cumbersome (laugh)." - (Haruki Suetsugu)[1]
Trivia
- Burn Dinorex's name in the original English release, Mattrex, was inspired by Matt Sorum, the former drummer of the rock band Guns N' Roses.
