Wily Capsule (ワイリーカプセル) is the teleporting escape pod that Dr. Wily uses to combat Mega Man after his Wily Machine is destroyed. It is the final form of the every Wily bossfight from Mega Man 4 and onward. (Up to Mega Man 11, the most recent game in the classic series.) In some games this fight is a separate boss, but in most it takes the place of the second or third phase of the Wily fight after the Wily Machine of that game is destroyed.

Wily Machine 5 (ワイリーマシン5号) is a giant skull tank, and the Wily Machine of Mega Man 5. However, as seen in page 82 of the Rockman & Rockman X Daizukan manga we can see that the Wily Machine 5 has no second phase due to a wiring mistake.

Physical appearance

After the Wily Machine 5 is destroyed, Dr. Wily continues to fight and emerges in his Wily Capsule 2(ワイリーカプセルII), which is an upgraded version of his previous Wily Capsule. Along with this, the boss music changes.

In ‘’Mega Man 5’’, the ‘’Wily Capsule 2’’ is the boss after Wily Machine 5.

Attack Pattern

The Wily Capsule 2 has a simpler attack pattern than the Wily Machine 5, and follows a set order of attacks. The Wily Capsule 2 fades in and out of the black background to appear in different areas on the screen, However, Dr. Wily and the Wily Capsule 2 tend to not appear in the middle of screen, giving the player a bit of a safe sport when fighting him. Once the Wily Capsule 2 appears, he immediately drops a pink energy orb straight to the ground. Once hitting the ground, this orb splits into two smaller ones that race across the ground, going in both directions. After this attack, the Wily Capsule 2 creates four orbs that surround and circle around it like a shield. Once the Wily Capsule 2 disappears, the orbs spiral out and then reconverging and finally disappearing. After this, these attacks will repeat in wherever the Wily Capsule 2 appears next.

Weaknesses

The Wily Capsule 2’s main weakness is Beat. Despite still not dealing a large amount of damage, Beat can home in on the Wily Capsule 2 wherever it is, dealing consistent damage with no need for Mega Man to be in a good position to strike. Sometimes Beat will even circle around where Wily is about to appear, giving the player the location of where Wily will show up next. As with all bosses, the Wily Capsule 2 takes 3 damage from a fully-charged buster shot. This attack does the most out of any weapon but is limited by Mega Man’s position and the buster’s range. Gyro Attack, despite dealing 1 damage, is also useful in this fight due to being able to change the weapon’s trajectory up or down once fired. Gravity Hold deals no damage, but if used after the four orbs disappear, can be used to show where Dr. Wily will appear next because of the bright flash.

Aftermath

Upon the Capsule’s destruction, Dr. Wily is knocked to the ground and runs away. In pursuit, Mega Man follows him and they both end up in Wily’s lab where Dr. Light is found captive. Wily jumps down and gets on his knees, admitting defeat to Mega Man once again. Once Mega Man rescues Dr. Light from his cell, the castle starts collapsing. As Mega Man protects Dr. Light by catching the ceiling debris, Dr. Wily escapes. An offscreen Proto Man, (indicated by his signature whistle,) activates a trigger that blows up just enough of the ceiling for Mega Man and Dr. Light to escape the collapsing castle. After Mega Man and Dr. Light escape the castle, the two watch the castle crumble into dust as Dr. Wily can been seen in the background flying away in his UFO. Proto Man watches, out of sight to Mega Man and Dr. Light, and silently leaves without making his presence known.
