Kaminari Kogoro[1] is an enemy appearing in Mega Man 7. It resembles an egg-shaped red oni head with purple hair and a single horn, which is able to fly out of pits and generate lightning under the appropriate weather conditions.
In the Games
Mega Man 7
In Mega Man 7, Kaminari Kogoros appear chiefly in Cloud Man's stage, as well as the first section of Dr. Wily stage 1. They can be classified as pit-jumper enemies, surprising Mega Man by jumping straight up out of a bottomless pit just as he approaches it and possibly knocking him in if he is too hasty. After reaching the peak of its jump, it glides back down slowly, swivelling left and right. Unlike many other pit jumpers, it does not respawn once destroyed.
In Cloud Man's stage, if the weather is rainy or snowy, the Kaminari Kogoro behaves differently at the peak of its jump, stopping in midair and sending a fast-moving lightning bolt downwards before it falls down again. In Dr. Wily stage 1, this behaviour is instead observed on the second Kaminari Kogoro encountered.
Related Enemies
Kaminari Kogoro is named for the functionally very different Kaminari Goro enemy from Mega Man 2, though its physical appearance also evokes the equally oni-like Goblin/Petit Goblin enemies from the same game.
Its behaviour of surprising Mega Man by jumping out of pits is shared with several other Classic era enemies, codified by the Up'n'Down enemy in Mega Man 4:
- Big Fish (Mega Man 2) - Jumps out of water and falls back down, but can be jumped over. High HP.
- Up'n'Down (Mega Man 4) - Swivels back down. Respawns.
- Mizzile (Mega Man 5) - Slowly falls back down. Invincible.
- Gabgyo (Mega Man 6) - Jumps out of water and falls back down. Respawns.
- Shururun (Mega Man 8, Mega Man & Bass) - Jumps out of pits without waiting for Mega Man and falls back down. Respawns.
- Detarnayappa (Mega Man 9) - Shoots at the peak of its jumps and falls back down. Respawns.
- Furaibon (Mega Man 10) - Floats back down on a parachute. Respawns.
- Tosanaizer V (Mega Man 11) - Stops briefly at its peak and falls back down. Does not respawn.
