The Hyper Chip (ハイパーチップ)[1][2], also known as the Hyper Special[3], is a secret Chip enhancement for the Third Armor found in Mega Man X3.

In the Games

Mega Man X3

The Hyper Chip debuted in Mega Man X3 as a secret upgrade for X's Third Armor. It can only be accessed if the player has collected every main upgrade in the game (Life Ups, Sub Tanks, Armor Parts, and Ride Armor), but none of the four Chips. The Hyper Chip's Light Capsule can then be found in Doppler Stage A. It is located in a hidden passage in a pit, in the area after the Ride Armor platform, but it will only appear if X reaches the passage with full Life Energy (calling a Ride Armor may help avoid damage along the way, or using a Sub Tank to refill beforehand).

Chip Location Effect
Hyper Chip Doppler Stage A Turns X's Third Armor golden and grants him access to the powers of all four Chips simultaneously:
  • Head Chip: Grants X the ability to slowly restore his Life Energy by standing still, healing 1 point approximately every 5 seconds. This includes filling Sub Tanks.
  • Body Chip: Upgrades X's Defense Shield into a stronger, red version that reduces further damage by 50% (for a total of approximately 75% damage reduction) as long as it is active.
  • Arm Chip: Grants X the Hyper Charge. When activated, X consumes a Weapon Energy gauge to freely fire Charge Shots until it is empty.
  • Foot Chip: Allows X to Variable Air Dash twice in one jump, regardless of dash direction. This includes allowing a Dash Jump into an Air Dash.

Mega Man X DiVE

In Mega Man X DiVE, the Hyper Chip appeared as one of Third Armor X's Active Skills. Upon activation, Third Armor X gains a +25% attack and +25% defense increase for 15 seconds, which cannot be cancelled. For the duration he also gains the Variable Air Dash, letting him Air Dash twice in one airtime.
