Rockman X Mega Mission (ロックマンXメガミッション) was a Carddass series originally released by Bandai in 1995. It was a line of collectible cards that told an original story in the X era starring X and Zero, set after the events of Mega Man X2.

In 1996, two continuations were released: Rockman X Mega Mission 2 and Rockman X Mega Mission 3. A fourth continuation was planned but canceled that same year. In 2018, the series returned by finally releasing an abridged version of the canceled Rockman X Mega Mission 4. In 2019, a fifth installment was also released: Rockman X Giga Mission.

Story

Three months after Mega Man X2, Dr. Doppler creates a semi-organic "Replibrain" called the Limited, which can mutate and control Reploids. To collect data on X, Doppler uses the Limited to revive four destroyed Mavericks as Limit Repliroids: Wire Hetimarl L, Boomer Kuwanger L, Burnin' Noumander L, and Bubbly Crablos L. Doppler has the Incept Chasers, Curtiss and Schmitt, monitor the Limit Repliroids.

X is attacked by Wire Hetimarl L first. He fights back, but the Limited escapes and tries to infect him. Although Zero stops it by shooting its core, the Limited's remains mutate the X-Buster into the Clear Buster. Zero departs to perform recon, while X continues to fight the Limit Repliroids. Upon defeating each one, a cloaked Curtiss suddenly destroys them and retrieves their Limited. Afterwards, X is challenged by Curtiss, who plans to steal his Clear Buster. Once defeated, Curtiss begins to reveal who is behind the Limited, only to be silenced by the cloaked Schmitt.

Fortunately, Zero's investigation leads him to Dr. Doppler's research, and X and Zero track him to an abandoned factory. There, the data from the Limited has already been applied to four more Limit Repliroids: X fights Flame Stagger L and Storm Eagleed L, while Zero fights Sting Chameleao L and Wheel Alligates L. Each Reploid's Limited escapes upon their destruction, and then Schmitt appears.

X's Clear Buster painfully mutates, paralyzing him in front of Schmitt. Zero fights, but is injured when Schmitt uses X as a hostage. Luckily, the mutation grants X the Clear High Buster, boosting his power. Schmitt retreats to be healed by the Mother Limited, the source of the Limited. Instead, the Mother Limited absorbs him and uses its data on X to create a clone, iX, who possesses the abilities of Schmitt and every Limit Repliroid. iX overpowers X, but this triggers X's Limited's self-preservation and grants him the Clear Armor. The two trade final blows, destroying both iX and the Clear Armor, freeing X of the Limited.

X moves on to face Dr. Doppler, who unleashes the Mother Limited. Still armed with X's data, the Mother Limited morphs into its massive Repligigant mode to attack. Fortunately, Zero returns and works with X to perform a Double Buster attack to defeat it. The two escape the factory as it explodes, but recall Doppler's words that the battle is far from over.

03		Limited	Limited DATA: A semi-organic substance created by Dr. Doppler. It can evolve the capabilities of any Repliroid or machinery it is infused with. WEAPON: Upon entering a host such as a Repliroid, it can take over the body to use it as its own.
04		W-Hetimarl-L	Wire Hetimarl Limited DATA: The body of Wire Hetimarl infused with Limited. However, the Limited became impulsive and tried to fuse with X. WEAPON: An inescapable wire attack using four tendrils at once.
05		X vs. W-Hetimarl-L	X vs. Wire Hetimarl Limited As the battle between Rockman X and his first assassin raged on, the Limited inside Wire Hetimarl L grew afraid of X's strength. Fearing for its own survival, Limited abandoned Hetimarl's body and attempted to infect X's.
06		Rockman X	Rockman X (Clear Buster) DATA: A transformation occurred when the Limited stuck to Rockman X's buster. Is the Limited evolving the mechanism? WEAPON: This buster power-up includes and surpasses all previous data!
07		Zero	Zero Commences Investigation Zero managed to destroy the Limited's core with a buster shot, but the organic material which bestows Limited's natural abilities splattered onto Rockman X, causing a mutation to his buster. To combat the situation, Zero decided to begin investigating alone.
08		B-Kuwanger-L	Boomer Kuwanger Limited DATA: The body of Boomer Kuwanger infused with Limited. During his time as an Irregular Hunter, his skills were considered SA-Class. WEAPON: Utilizes formidable strategic tactics with the Boomerang Cutter and teleportation to disrupt his foes!
09		X vs. B-Kuwanger-L	X vs. Boomer Kuwanger Limited Rockman X used his powered-up buster with Homing Torpedo to lay waste to Boomer Kuwanger L. Just then, a giant man in a cloak appeared and extracted the Limited from Kuwanger's broken wreckage. Just who was that guy?
10		B-Noumander-L	Burnin' Noumander Limited DATA: The body of Burnin' Noumander, infused with Limited. He still retains some memory of being defeated by X. WEAPON: Using his large size to his advantage, he throws his weight around while also using the oil in his body to generate an even stronger fire breath.
11		X vs. B-Noumander-L	X vs. Burnin' Noumander Limited Burnin' Noumander L was able to avoid Rockman X's Storm Tornado, and attempted to rush X in a kamikaze explosion attack. Then suddenly, the cloaked giant again appeared, halting Noumander in his tracks with a boomerang. With the detonation stopped, the giant ripped the Limited out from Noumander and disappeared once more.
12		B-Crablos-L	Bubbly Crablos Limited DATA: The body of Bubbly Crablos infused with Limited. Even now, his avarice is as strong as ever. WEAPON: Uses the newly-enlarged pincers on his shoulders to crush his enemies!
13		X vs. B-Crablos-L	X vs. Bubbly Crablos Limited Rockman X was aiming to take out Bubbly Crablos L with Spin Wheel, when the giant appeared and this time, he attacked X instead. X was hit and his aim was thrown off, but he still managed to land a final blow on Crablos. The cloaked giant was able to recover the Limited and escape yet again.
14		Curtiss	Curtiss DATA: Known to his allies as an Incept Chaser, his duty is to track the Limited and observe its evolution. WEAPON: Equipped with giant boomerangs at his waist, and unfathomable destructive power.
15		X vs. Curtiss	Rockman X vs. Curtiss With the data from the three Limited bodies that Curtiss recovered, Dr. Doppler set about resurrecting new Repliroids. And, he had a new order for the cloaked giant: "Get me that Limited-fused buster!" Curtiss promptly carried this out by hunting Rockman X to engage him in battle.
16		Schmitt	Schmitt of the Shadows Curtiss was on his last legs after being beaten by Rockman X. Now it's X's chance to get some answers! "The Replibrain can evolve machines... it was created by..." But Curtiss' confession was interrupted when he was suddenly struck down. "You've said enough, Curtiss!" the man uttered, and disappeared.
17		Zero	Zero's Report Zero returned to Rockman X with new information. He learned that a certain scientist called Dr. Doppler was researching "evolutionary cells" and could be involved in this incident. The two made their way to an abandoned factory where Dr. Doppler was rumored to be working. Just as Zero suspected, there they found more regenerated Repliroids waiting for them.
18		Dr. Doppler	Dr. Doppler DATA: A mysterious scientist possessing a high-grade intelligence. Although he is a Repliroid himself, he is capable of designing and building other Repliroids. WEAPON: Unknown.
19		F-Stagger-L	Flame Stagger Limited DATA: Flame Stagger has been infused with a Limited which contained the battle data of X, making him an even tougher opponent. WEAPON: Wielding intensified blue flames, he burns anything and everything to ashes!
20		X vs. F-Stagger-L	X vs. Flame Stagger Limited Flame Stagger L squared off against Rockman X. Avoiding the powered up blazing attacks, X pelted Stagger's body with Bubble Splash. But this time, once its host body was wrecked, the Limited inside snuck out and escaped all on its own.
21		S-Chameleao-L	Sting Chameleao Limited DATA: The body of Sting Chameleao infused with Limited. Possessing extreme cunning and high attack power, he's in top form! WEAPON: By making his body transparent, he can approach his enemies unseen!
22		Zero vs. S-Chameleao-L	Zero vs. Sting Chameleao Limited Sting Chameleao L stalked his prey invisibly, but can always be seen just before he strikes. Zero was ready, and dispatched him with a shot from his buster. Like before, the Limited fled Chameleao's broken body on its own. Is the Limited itself also evolving?
23		S-Eagleed-L	Storm Eagleed Limited DATA: The body of Storm Eagleed, infused with Limited. No one is a match for his aerial combat skills. WEAPON: His Storm Tornado is immensely powerful when fired from his five-barreled cannon.
24		X vs. S-Eagleed-L	X vs. Storm Eagleed Limited Rockman X protected himself from Storm Eagleed L's aerial assault by counter-attacking and firing Chameleon Sting into the air. Eagleed's wing was hit, and he crashed into the ground, defeated. The Limited inside escaped by itself once again.
25		W-Alligates-L	Wheel Alligates Limited DATA: The body of Wheel Alligates, infused with Limited. A monster whose appetite for destruction is even greater than before! WEAPON: His snapping jaws and giant body drill attacks are even more powerful than ever before!
26		Zero vs. W-Alligates-L	Zero vs. Wheel Alligates Limited Last of the revived bosses, Wheel Alligates L rushed at Zero tooth and nail, but Zero was able to skillfully dodge his attacks. Zero went on the counteroffensive, and took Alligates down. However, the Limited inside slipped away and escaped just as the others, retreating deeper into the inner sanctum.
27		Schmitt	Schmitt DATA: A cutting edge Repliroid who is the closest aide of Dr. Doppler. He is an Incept Chaser like Curtiss. WEAPON: His hands are lethal weapons. His chopping strike is performed with great speed and agility, and can even launch energy attacks from both arms.
28		X vs. Schmitt	X (Clear High Buster) vs. Schmitt Rockman X and Zero were chasing the escaping Limited when the other cloaked figure appeared before them. While engaged in battle with Schmitt, X's buster began to change again. The buster's transformation caused excruciating pain, leaving X temporarily paralyzed. Watch out, Rockman X!
29		Zero vs. Schmitt	Zero vs. Schmitt While Rockman X lay immobilized during his transformation, Zero faced off with Schmitt. Zero parried Schmitt's blows and fired back with amazing skill. Irritated by this, Schmitt decided to strike at the helpless Rockman X instead, and fired off an attack directly in X's path. What will you do now, Zero?!
30		Zero	Zero Down Attempting to shield Rockman X from Schmitt's attack, Zero was wounded and collapsed. But just in time, the buster metamorphosis was complete! Rockman X took Zero's place on the battlefield. The battle was intense, but X was driven on by a strangely powerful compulsion! Hang in there, Rockman X!
31		Rockman X	Rockman X (Clear High Buster) DATA: The Limited continued to mutate, resulting in the revolutionary Clear High Buster. But what does this evolution mean for X? WEAPON: This buster can convert Rockman X's life energy into attack power.
32		X vs. Schmitt	Rockman X vs. Schmitt Rockman X skirmished with Schmitt all across the abandoned factory, but even so he found his power wasn't responding as he wanted. "Haven't I been powered up!?" Schmitt was wounded during the fight, and escaped back to where Mother Limited could repair him. But instead of healing Schmitt, Mother Limited swallowed him up entirely. Then a figure emerged...
33		X -iX-	X (iX) DATA: "Rockman X data assembled." The Limited began acting with a will of its own, and absorbed Schmitt's body! WEAPON: By analyzing Rockman X, the strongest buster yet has been created!
34		X -ex- vs. X -iX-	Rockman X vs. iX "I have absorbed Schmitt! My name is iX, and I am the strongest Doppler warrior!" The Limited fused with Schmitt and grew into a new Repliroid. With all the revived Repliroids' techniques at his command, iX was giving Rockman X the fight of his life. All of the sudden, Rockman X felt his body change once again.
35		Rockman X	Rockman X (Clear Armor) DATA: Limited has formed an armor to protect Rockman X. But Rockman X has lost control of his body! WEAPON: Has the ability to absorb enemy attacks and instantly repair any damage.
36		Rockman X	More Power!? Rockman X The Limited fusion has spread further over Rockman X's body. The Limited inside Rockman X adapted during the battle with iX to suit their needs, but is taking over X's body as well! "Is the Limited trying to control me?!" Mustering the last of his power, X prepared for one final all-out attack against iX!
37		X -iX-	The End of iX Rockman X and iX attacked simultaneously, each targeting the other's chest with enough power to destroy one another for good. Just as it seemed their mutual destruction was assured, Rockman X was able to use iX's buster shot to tear away the Limited from inside his body and gain control of himself and escape at the last moment. X was free, and iX was defeated! Nice work, Rockman X!
38		Dr. Doppler	Enter Dr. Doppler The true villain, Dr. Doppler, finally appeared from behind Rockman X. "You're Dr. Doppler!?" "Correct. How dare you destroy my dear Limited! Behold our wrath!" In the center of the room, the Mother Limited began to move.
39		M-Limited	Mother Limited DATA: Held the function of producing Limited organisms. Its body was changed to the final battle form in order to settle the score with X. WEAPON: Possesses all the anti-Rockman X data collected by the Limited.
40		X vs. M-Limited	X vs. Mother Limited The Mother Limited transformed its own body to Repligigant form to challenge Rockman X to one more final round. Rockman X is in for one grueling battle against that monstrously huge figure! "Lets go, Limited! I'll never yield to you!"
41		X & Zero vs. M-Limited	X & Zero vs. Mother Limited Determined to take on the Limited, Rockman X felt a refreshing surge of power welling up inside. Zero too was determined to help Rockman X, despite his injuries. The two came together to form their most extreme combination attack, the Double Buster! The Repligigant Mother Limited was annihilated!
42		Dr. Doppler	A New Adversary Has Emerged Rockman X and Zero managed to evacuate the abandoned factory just before it was destroyed by Mother Limited's explosion. However, the sound of Doppler's voice echoed in their heads. "Well played, Rockman X. But our game is far from over!" A formidable new foe has shown himself. Rockman X's fight is not yet concluded.

IX			About three months after the showdown with the Counter Hunters, a powerful new threat appeared before Rockman X. This new threat took the form of Repliroids that should have already been destroyed by X in the past. X and Zero took action, setting out to discover the truth behind the incidents. During one battle, X's buster was struck by a mysterious substance, the Limited, which clung to it and seemed to be absorbed. This substance caused a mutation that powered up X's buster. Though confused by this new power, X continued to face the threat head-on. Behind the scenes of each regenerated Repliroid incident, a mysterious cloaked Incept Chaser was lurking. While investigating the strange events, it was learned that the key figure behind the intrigue was a certain Dr. Doppler. Thanks to information uncovered by Zero, they located Doppler's hideout in an old abandoned factory. There, X and Zero's battle continued...

Rockman X Mega Mission was adapted into a manga by Hitoshi Ariga called File RX2: Mega Mission. It was originally released in an issue of Comic BomBom in 1995, and later Rockman Remix in 1996, and Mega Man Maniax in 2011. In 2018, plans were announced by Udon Entertainment to publish an official English version of the manga in full color, called Mega Man X: Mega Mission, but as of 2025 it still has yet to be released.
