The Falcon Armor (ファルコンアーマー)[1][2] is a set of Armor Parts obtained from the Light Capsules in Mega Man X5.

In the Games

Mega Man X5

The Falcon Armor debuted in Mega Man X5. It is most notable for its Free Move ability, which effectively lets X fly through the air. Unlike previous Armor Parts, all four programs of the Falcon Armor must be collected before it can be equipped.

Programs Location Effect
Head Program Super-Electromagnetic Lab Stage Increases maximum Special Weapon Energy by 50%.
Body Program Deep-Sea Submarine Stage Reduces all damage received by 50%, and grants X a Giga Attack. Its Weapon Energy fills whenever X takes damage from enemy attacks, allowing X to use the Giga Attack to summon Charge Shots across the entire screen.
Arm Program Laser Institute Stage Upgrades X's third Charge Shot level to the Spear Charge Shot (スピアチャージショット), which deals increased damage and penetrates enemies, obstacles, and surfaces. However, X cannot charge Special Weapons like usual.
Foot Program Runaway Truck Stage Grants X the Free Move, which allows X to fly through the air for a limited amount of time. During Free Move, X gains a small barrier that damages enemies on contact and grants him invincibility to collision damage, allowing him to fly through enemies freely. However, X cannot Air Dash like usual.

Mega Man X6

The Falcon Armor returned in Mega Man X6, having been incompletely restored by Alia.[3] It lacks some of its original effects and gains some new ones, and is given to the player as early as the Opening Stage.

Programs Location Effect
Head Program - Reduces Weapon Energy consumption by 33%.
Body Program - Reduces all damage received by 50%, and grants X a Giga Attack. Its Weapon Energy fills whenever X takes damage from enemy attacks, allowing X to use the Giga Attack to summon Charge Shots across the entire screen.
Arm Program - Changes X's third Charge Shot level to the Spear Charge Shot. Its damage is lower than the default Charge Shot and it can no longer pierce obstacles, but X can now charge Special Weapons to make up for it.
Foot Program - Grants X the Air Dash and Free Move. Both moves grant X a small barrier, but Free Move is greatly weakened, moving only slightly further than an Air Dash.

Mega Man X DiVE

In Mega Man X DiVE, Falcon Armor X appears as a playable Hunter Program. His Active Skills are the Spear Charge Shot and the Giga Attack.

Developer Commentary

"The Falcon Armor was designed by Higurashi. As the name suggests, the chest piece is shaped like a beak, there are wings coming out of the back, and the arm is curved into talons. He's in a flying pose here, with his chest stuck out." - (Haruki Suetsugu)[4]
"This is a real "now I've done it!" armor. (laugh) I intended to make an armor that was above all the rest, so I took an aggressive approach. (sweat). The source material being the previous game's Fourth Armor also worried me a lot, going over and over the designs that SEITO, the designer in charge, had come up with. (bitter laugh) I was very particular about its design, since it would be the "poster armor" for selling the game. Because of its ability to fly, he designed it using the image of a falcon, hence the name. I like the beak on the chest; did you notice it?" - (Developer Comments)[5]
"This was the hardest to design. I struggled coming up with ideas, and I caused trouble for a lot of people. Sorry. But in the end, I might like it the most. When I drew it with the image of a falcon in mind, the name changed from 'Wing Armor' to 'Falcon Armor'. That made me happy. I'm touched it will appear in commercials and vending machines (because it's my first time)." - (SEITO, Designer Comments)[5]
