Shotgun Ice (ショットガンアイス) is a Special Weapon first appearing in Mega Man X. It is obtained by defeating Chill Penguin. It gives X a blue and yellow palette, and shoots an ice ball that shatters into shrapnel on contact.

In Mega Man X, Shotgun Ice is obtained by defeating Chill Penguin. Penguin uses it in his boss battle by spitting ice chunks, which shatter harmlessly. X fires a spiked ball of ice; if the ball hits a wall or enemy, it splits into four pieces of shrapnel that fly backwards at different angles.

Shotgun Ice deals 1 damage to enemies; both the initial shot and its shrapnel deal the same amount. It is strong against Spark Mandrill and Bospider; it deals 3 damage to both and will briefly freeze Mandrill in place, an infamously exploitable strategy. It costs 1 Weapon Energy to fire.

Shotgun Ice's Charge Shot generates an ice sled in the shape of Chill Penguin, which slides forwards until it shatters on a wall or strong enemy. X can stand on top of the sled to ride it, which moves faster than most of his movement. This deals 2 damage and costs 2 Weapon Energy.

Mega Man Xtreme

In Mega Man Xtreme, Shotgun Ice is again obtained by defeating Chill Penguin. It functions identically to its appearance in Mega Man X, though its Charge Shot sled no longer resembles Chill Penguin and only deals its 2 damage on bosses that are weak to it. It is newly strong against Zain, and still freezes Spark Mandrill in place, but is adjusted to be far less exploitable.

Mega Man Maverick Hunter X

In Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Shotgun Ice is again obtained by defeating Chill Penguin. It functions identically to its appearance in Mega Man X, though like in Mega Man Xtreme, its Charge Shot sled does not resemble Chill Penguin anymore.

Other Game Appearances

• In Mega Man X DiVE, Shotgun Ice is a Chip obtained by defeating Chill Penguin in Story Mode. It can only be used with a Buster equipped, inflicting damage and a stackable Slow status to the target.
