Fire Metall is an enemy found in Mega Man 8 and Mega Man & Bass. It is a red and orange Metall that wears a kind of torch on its head instead of a helmet, similar to Fire Man.

In the Games

Mega Man 8

In Mega Man 8, Fire Metalls are found in Grenade Man's stage, Sword Man's stage and Dr. Wily stage 1. They do not act like other Metalls and possess no special abilities, instead simply marching towards Mega Man and jumping off edges, even into bottomless pits. They are however able to light fuses on the dynamite blocks in Grenade Man's stage, causing them to explode and setting off a chain reaction that also detonates all connected blocks.

Some Fire Metalls are dropped from dispensers at the top of the stage, which activate after a few seconds and spawn a new Fire Metall if the current one is destroyed.

Mega Man & Bass

Sprite from Mega Man & Bass.

Like most Mega Man 8 enemies, Fire Metalls return in Mega Man & Bass, though in a modified state. They possess small tank treads instead of feet and show slightly more complex behaviour, losing their ability to jump but periodically causing the flame on their head to shoot up as a pillar, similar to an upward-facing Burner Block. If the Fire Metall is destroyed, its flame stays behind for a short time and may still continue to erupt if it was in the process of doing so.

Fire Metalls appear in the Fire Man Stage inspired section of the Robot Museum, as well as Dynamo Man's stage and King Stage 1. In Dynamo Man's stage, they are sometimes placed on conveyor belts, which may continue to move their flame towards Mega Man or Bass even after the enemy has been destroyed.

Related Enemies

Fire Metalls are Metall varieties, though they share none of their typical behaviour, such as shooting forward or hiding under their helmet, and no other Metall types resemble them directly. They also bear a resemblance to Fire Man, a Robot Master from the original Mega Man.
