In the Games
Mega Man Zero 3
Deathtanz Mantisk is one of the first four Mission bosses in Mega Man Zero 3. He was formerly the Vice Chief Judge of the Eight Gentle Judges, holding the title of "Moonlight Judge" (月光審官), but was brainwashed by Dr. Weil into one of his loyal Weil Numbers.
Mantisk serves as the boss of the Mission "Find Dark Elf" in Old Residential, where he is hunting the Dark Elf. When Zero arrives, Mantisk has cornered the Baby Elves instead and locks them in a room so that he can fight Zero alone. He has no weaknesses, and defeating him grants Zero the Light Chip, plus the 1000 Slash at Level A or higher. Even though Mantisk fails his mission, Dr. Weil arrives in person to successfully collect the Baby Elves and recruit them to Neo Arcadia. Mantisk later returns as part of the boss attack in Weil's Laboratory.
Other Game Appearances
- In Mega Man Zero 4, an image of Deathtanz Mantisk appears in Dr. Weil's Enemy Inferno attack, using his Razor Arm.
- In Mega Man ZX, Mantisk reappears as a secret boss in Area N, behind a door that only opens if a Mega Man Zero 3 cartridge is inserted in the Nintendo DS, or by activating the Zero 3 link in the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection release. He has the exact same battle strategy with additional voice lines.
Other Media
- In Remastered Tracks Rockman Zero Telos, Mantisk appears in the Drama Tracks. He is first heard as one of the noble Eight Gentle Judges, hesitantly judging Mavericks under Copy X's harsh new rule. Later, he returns as a brainwashed Weil Number to mock the Four Guardians.
Official Data
Mega Man Zero 3 manual[1] | Reploid developed for the sole purpose of execution, he cuts down his prey with his huge two-handed "Grim Reaper Sickle." |
Mega Man Zero 3 Database | D. Mantisk Uses scythes to dispose of old Reploids. |
Mega Man Zero Official Complete Works[4] | A Reploid developed more for execution than battle. In his combat proficiency evaluations, he cut 20 experimental test machines in half within five minutes. His skills were so highly regarded that he was given an especially durable blade sharpened at the atomic level, called the "Grim Reaper's scythe." The blade earns its namesake through the numerous dead left in its wake. Mantisk's eyes are not where you would normally find the eyes on a praying mantis. His tiny face is located at the center of the top of his neck. |
Rockman Magazine Vol. 06[2] | The Moonlight Judge. A mantis Reploid that specializes in execution. His fighting skill is by far the highest of the Judges, and the blades on his arms are sharpened to an atomic level, earning them the title of "Grim Reaper's scythe".[JP] |

Trivia
- In the English version, Deathtanz Mantisk has a habit of saying "chikachika" when irritated. This "chikachika" (ちかちか) is an onomatopoeia used in Japanese manga to indicate the twitching/flickering of one's eyes. In the original Japanese version, he says "gichigichi" (ギチギチ) instead, which is an onomatopoeia for objects grinding, expressing discomfort in a situation where things aren't going as planned.
