Ciel (シエル) is a major supporting protagonist in the Zero era games. A young human scientist from Neo Arcadia, Ciel defected and formed the Resistance to help fight against the mistreatment of Reploids. Eventually, she discovered Zero, a hero from long ago. The two worked together to liberate the people from Neo Arcadia's rule.

By the time of the ZX era, Ciel's whereabouts are unknown. However, it is revealed she formed the Guardians and created several Biometal, setting the events of Mega Man ZX into motion.

In the Games

Zero era

In the Zero era, Ciel was formerly a reploid researcher for Neo Arcadia, having been genetically altered from birth to be a prodigy in the field. During her time there, she developed Copy X, a near perfect copy of X, the former ruler of Neo Arcadia, to replace him after the latter sealed himself and the Dark Elf away to end the Elf Wars. Eventually, Copy X began oppressing and killing innocent reploids under the pretense of fixing Neo Arcadia's energy crisis. The guilt from seeing the actions of her own creation inspired her to create the Resistance as a safe haven for reploids freed from Neo Arcadia. Ciel's resistance continued to grow in size, while she worked on an alternative energy source to end the energy crisis.

Mega Man Zero

With Neo Arcadia bearing down on the resistance, Ciel began to look for the other hero from the Elf Wars, Zero, who had been missing for so long that he was believed by many to be merely a legend. With Neo Arcadian forces following closely behind, Ciel and several resistance members made their way to an Underground Laboratory, where they found the hero of legend. With the resistance cornered, Ciel's Cyber-elf Passy sacrificed herself to awaken Zero. While he had no memories, he protected Ciel from Neo Arcadia's army and escorted her back to the Resistance Base. From there, the Ciel and Zero worked together to defeat Copy X.
