The Sand Wilderness (砂の荒野)[2] is an area in Mega Man Zero 2. It serves as the game's Opening Stage.

Description

Upon starting, a scene of Zero wounded walking through a sand storm plays, having fought Neo Arcadian forces alone for 1 year and the sand paralyzing him[3]. As the sand storm calms, the forces have reached him, upon noticing them Zero removes his cloak and gets ready for battle.

Sand Wilderness opens with an army of Pantheons coming from the left, with no end in sight until the stage is cleared. Trying to fight them will eventually make Zero remark "This isn't fun anymore..." (English version). Going further there will be encounters with weak enemies and pits throughout, and eventually you will fight two Golem Type E, one on flat terrain and then one with a pit. After the fights parts of the terrain become unstable and collapses when standing on it and several flying enemies attacking you, once you reach the end you will fight the stage boss Mega Scorpia.

The fight ends and Zero starts breaking down, becoming unconscious. A sand storm starts up again and Harpuia lands in front of him, saying if Zero is to live or die.
