Wave Man's stage[conj.] is a Robot Master stage in Mega Man 5, appearing 6th on the stage select screen (in reading order).

Wave Man's stage takes place in and around a waterworks, inside which Wave Man himself is fought. The stage is unique for its second half, which consists of a long auto-scrolling Jet Ski section, and also features other exclusive (but less prominent) gimmicks that see Mega Man travelling through pipes and floating upwards on bubbles.

Due to most enemies being indestructible hazards or fought with the Jet Ski, the stage offers very few opportunities for Mega Man to use his special weapons outside of the boss fight.

Layout

The stage begins inside the waterworks, with various Teckyuns in Mega Man's way that swing back and forth on the ceiling or ground. At the right end of this section are several pipes, two of which can be entered and will send Mega Man through them at great speed as soon as he touches the opening; they both lead further down, though entering the top one also leads to a 1 UP.

The bottom section has many Girees rolling along and steam coming from cracks in the floor. Both are harmful and indestructible, requiring careful timing to get past.

On the right is a vertical section with waterfalls coming down, and green bubbles in two sizes rising up from vents in a pipe, which Mega Man can ride upwards. Although the bubbles do not pop as long as Mega Man is standing on them, he must switch bubbles occasionally to avoid rising up into spikes. At the top of the bubble section, Mega Man exits the waterworks and automatically mounts a Jet Ski outside.

Jet Ski

A long Jet Ski segment makes up the second half of Wave Man's stage as a unique section with altered gameplay. As Mega Man crosses the water on the Jet Ski, the screen appears to move continuously to the right, and his abilities are somewhat limited - although can jump, shoot and move back and forth, he cannot enter the pause menu, and thus not use any special weapons or E-Tanks.

Although this section is completely flat, several V enemies float in the water, and Rider Joes may attack from the front or behind; jumping Irucan dolphins also appear later. The only way to progress is to survive these until the screen stops autoscrolling and Mega Man leaves on the right. Waiting here is Octoper OA, the only true sub-boss in the game, who must be fought and defeated on the Jet Ski.

After defeating Octoper, Mega Man must be moved to the right manually to enter another autoscrolling section. This section is similar, but the Vs are absent and significantly more Irucans appear. The Beat part E (O in the Japanese version) is also located here and must be grabbed with a properly timed jump; if it is missed, there will be no way to go back and get it without starting over.

After a while, Mega Man dismounts the Jet Ski on the other shore, where a singular Twin Cannon guards the boss doors.

Other Versions

Note that a Robot Master named Wave Man also appears in Mega Man 3 (DOS), with his own stage; however, this stage is otherwise unrelated.

Trivia

  • The Twin Cannon at the end of the stage is the only enemy that can be fought and defeated with Mega Man's regular set of weapons, outside of Wave Man himself.
  • Oddly, despite belonging to the game's water-themed Robot Master, there is no interactable "water" in this stage from a gameplay perspective, leaving the game with no underwater sections at all until Dr. Wily stage 2.
  • This is the only stage from Mega Man 5 that appears in another game without a port of its original music; the Mega Man (Game Gear) version uses music from Gravity Man's stage instead, while a rendition of Wave Man's stage theme is used as the Game Over theme.
