A Chip (チップ) is a recurring type of item in the Zero era. They are equippable items that can alter Zero's properties, including his elemental alignment, attack, defense, and mobility. Certain ones may be classified as an Element Chip (エレメントチップ).[1]

In Mega Man Zero, there are three Element Chips that Zero can use. They are automatically obtained by defeating specific bosses, and can then be equipped to take advantage of bosses with elemental weaknesses.

In Mega Man Zero 2, the three Element Chips return. They are again obtained by defeating specific bosses.

Mega Man Zero 3

In Mega Man Zero 3, Chips are divided into Head, Body, and Foot types. The majority of Chips are automatically obtained by defeating a boss. Others (such as all Head Chips) are obtained by finding Secret Disks hidden throughout the game's stages.

Mega Man Zero 4

Chips in Mega Man Zero 4.

In Mega Man Zero 4, Chips are obtained by getting Cerveau to craft them using Parts collected from destroyed enemies. Some Chips have recipes that are given to Zero by characters in the game, while others do not. Besides the main Head, Body, and Foot Chips, there are S-Crystals which can be sold for E-Crystals, and Junk Parts that, when all three are equipped, give Zero the same properties as the Proto Form from Mega Man Zero 2.
