Deathtanz Mantisk is one of the first four Mission bosses in Mega Man Zero 3. He was formerly the Vice Chief Judge of the Eight Gentle Judges, but was brainwashed by Dr. Weil into one of his loyal Weil Numbers. He serves as the boss of the Mission "Find Dark Elf" in Old Residential. When Zero arrives, Mantisk has just cornered the Baby Elves and locks them in a room so he can fight Zero alone. Defeating him grants Zero the Body Chip of Light, plus the EX Skill of 1000 Slash if the player is at A rank or higher. Even though Mantisk fails his mission, Dr. Weil arrives in person to successfully collect the Baby Elves and recruit them to Neo Arcadia. Mantisk later returns for the boss attack in Weil's Research Laboratory.

Other Game Appearances

  • In Mega Man Zero 4, an illusory Mantisk attacks Zero in Dr. Weil's Enemy Inferno attack, using his Razor Arm.
  • In Mega Man ZX, Mantisk reappears as a secret boss in Area N, behind a door that only opens if a Mega Man Zero 3 cartridge is inserted in the Nintendo DS, or by activating the Zero 3 link in the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection release. He has the exact same battle strategy with additional voice lines.

EX SKILL: 1000 Slash
A Reploid developed more for execution than battle. In his combat proficiency evaluations, he cut 20 experimental test machines in half within five minutes. His skills were so highly regarded that he was given an especially durable blade sharpened at the atomic level, called the "Grim Reaper's scythe." The blade earns its namesake through the numerous dead left in its wake.
Mantisk's eyes are not where you would normally find the eyes on a praying mantis. His tiny face is located at the center of the top of his neck.

Trivia

  • In the English version, Deathtanz Mantisk has a habit of saying "chikachika" (ちかちか) when irritated. This is an onomatopoeia used in Japanese manga to indicate the twitching/flickering of one's eyes. In the original Japanese version, he says "gichigichi" (ギチギチ) instead, which is an onomatopoeia for objects grinding, expressing discomfort in a situation where things aren't going as planned.
