Walkthroughs for the boss fights with Chill Penguin.
Mega Man X
In Mega Man X, Chill Penguin is commonly the first boss that players target on the Stage Select screen, due to his relatively easy stage that contains the Foot Parts, and his straightforward boss fight. Most of his attacks do not deal a large amount of damage, and those that do can be dodged without much trouble. He is weak to Flame Mammoth's Fire Wave, which wreathes him in flames for a few seconds and can quickly destroy his ice sculptures. He is also one of the few bosses to suffer knockback when hit with shots from the default X-Buster.
Chill Penguin primarily moves around the room by jumping, attempting to land on top of X. He also moves with his Sliding attack. He switches between firing Shotgun Ice, creating Ice Sculptures, and triggering Blizzards.
Chill Penguin rarely exhibits a unique behavior where he harmlessly coughs snow instead of spitting Shotgun Ice, when at low health. It is currently unknown what triggers this behavior.[Citation needed]
When Chill Penguin is first defeated, X gains his Special Weapon, Shotgun Ice.
Attacks
Image | Damage | Description | Notes | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Shotgun Ice (ショットガンアイス)[1] | 2 | Chill Penguin spits four chunks of ice. Some ice travels straight through the air, other slides along the floor. | This is the Special Weapon acquired from his defeat. | |
Sliding (スライディング)[1] | 6 | Chill Penguin slides along the floor on his belly, bouncing off of walls on contact. | — | |
Ice Sculpture (氷の像)[1] | 4 | Chill Penguin breathes snow, creating two penguin-shaped ice sculptures that can cause contact damage. If the player touches the snow, they are frozen solid. | The sculptures can be destroyed by the player's attacks, or by his own Sliding and Blizzard. | |
Blizzard (吹雪)[1] | 0 | Chill Penguin jumps to pull the hook on the ceiling, causing a blizzard until he hops off. The blizzard pushes the player and any ice sculptures. | — |

Mega Man Xtreme
Similar to his appearance in Mega Man X, Chill Penguin is one of the game's most simple bosses and his stage still has the Foot Parts, making him a good first target in Normal Mode. He is now weak to Flame Stag's Speed Burner instead, though it has the same effect on him.
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X
In Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Chill Penguin's boss fight is nearly identical to previous appearances. In Hard Mode, he gains a new attack: an aerial form of Shotgun Ice that creates shrapnel and can be difficult to dodge. For X, he is weak to Fire Wave, and for Vile, he is weak to most Flamethrower weapons obtained from Flame Mammoth (Wild Horse Kick, Dragon's Wrath, Green-Eyed Lamp, Burning Drive).
