Special Weapons (特殊武器)[1][2][3] are a recurring type of weapon in the Mega Man franchise. They are unique weapons obtained by defeating bosses such as Robot Masters or Mavericks, which consume Weapon Energy when used.

X era

X's X-Buster is equipped with a Variable Weapons System (武器可変システム)[3] that allows him to incorporate the abilities of the Maverick bosses he defeats to use Special Weapons. Zero uses a similar system called Learning (ラーニング)[4] that allows him to learn from the abilities of Maverick bosses to devise his own Techniques, similar to Special Weapons. Axl uses his Copy Chip to copy the abilities of Maverick bosses to use Special Weapons. Vile's copying of Maverick weapons is never explained in lore.
