From Mega Man Wiki

Official Discord server

As some of you may not know, most wikis have an associated Discord server, such as the ABXY Discord Server for Lylat Wiki and Shilver Star for WiKirby.

Do we want one? and if so, do we want it on ABXY or a standalone? Tacopill (talk) 17:07, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

What things would we want in a Skin? Here's the Color Pallet, I've been using for the templates.

I was thinking we could make it like an NES game? or SNES Game?

Tacopill (talk) 17:13, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

NES game since those are more recognizable to me, a person who has yet to play the Mega Man games. Results May Vary (talk) 14:57, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
Said this in chat already, but it would be good to eventually have different skins for each era as they can look and feel quite different.--Vellidragon (talk) 16:02, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
We could make different default skins and/or add more skins. As an example:
Skin era
Monobook Classic
Vector X
Timeless Battle Network

On the current Timeless skin edit, I think the colours are quite boring and don't look much like Mega Man. I assume this was based on the navbox colours, but I honestly haven't been liking those either. It could stand to be less dry-looking, and the text background is also a little bit too dark. The header image is a cute idea, but it's cut off at the edges so that looks weird. The Museum version of the art doesn't crop any of the characters, so I don't know why the header looks like that, and it's also a bit strange that it cuts off at the bottom right before it gets to Mega Man himself.

Btw, the Wiki tables seem to look the same (boring grey) regardless of skin. I don't know if those are even skin-dependent, but I've been hoping they'd look nicer eventually.--Vellidragon (talk) 23:46, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Been thinking about it and I think it could benefit a lot from having a darker colour for the site background and lighter colour for the text containers. I did rough mockup in Photoshop here. The mockup also uses a crop from the digitalised Museum artwork for the header; it's smaller, but it's not cut off on the sides and Mega Man's face would fit in the header. Thoughts?--Vellidragon (talk) 20:56, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback on the skin so far, but just to be clear, it's not done yet. I so far have just put a couple of hours into it. The header photo was a placeholder to show Tacopill the design concept and I have yet to begin designing in-content sections as well. I'll keep your suggestions in mind as well. Wikitable sortable and captions

For some reason, the class "wikitable sortable" and table captions (headings) created with |+ syntax don't play together well. Using them together creates an empty "tbody" tag between the header and actual body when viewing the parsed version in Inspect Element, which can cause visual glitches in how the table is displayed (lines disappearing/reappearing). Deleting the node in Inspect resolves those. Tested in Timeless and Vector and it's the same result. Does not happen for the non-sortable "wikitable" and also doesn't happen without a caption. I haven't found any info elsewhere on these two table specifications not cooperating, so does anyone know what's going on here?--Vellidragon (talk) 02:50, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

This has not been fixed and can now be seen in action here (and on the other Game Boy game articles with sortable tables + captions).--Vellidragon (talk) 20:12, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
This bug still persists.--Vellidragon (talk) 04:30, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Search suggestions are case-sensitive?

For some reason, the search bar feature to show existing pages as you type appears to be case-sensitive after the first letter, so if you put in "mega man" it won't show any pages until you change it to "mega Man". This seems very pointless - can it be changed?--Vellidragon (talk) 04:30, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Featured content

I've been wanting to feature the article Mega Man & Bass on the main page, but it appears we have no templates for displaying featured content, no way to denote it in the article and no process for nominating content (pointless atm with no userbase, but needs to be planned out anyway). I'm not sure how these are usually implemented, so would appreciate if someone else could do so or provide guidance.--Vellidragon (talk) 04:10, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Do we want to do a simple periodic feature, where we only have one FA at a time; or have numerous slots, that are randomnly shown to the end user? I know of different ways to do both. Tacopill (talk) 19:09, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Random might be good so we don't have to cycle them manually further down the line. I don't see feature dates etc. as important personally, it's more about highlighting some good content on the main page.--Vellidragon (talk) 23:43, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
I started putting the stuff together. I'll need more articles to select from and for the new SysAdmin to install an extension for it to randomize the choices. Tacopill (talk) 01:48, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
I don't think we have anything else at this level of completion. :( Unless we want to start with lower standards, based on what the average article looks like right now, and unfeature those later? Roll is a non-game article that is decently long right now, though it's missing major game coverage. Bass is apparently our longest (in bytes) character article, but again there's stuff amiss. I'm really not sure how presentable any of these are.
I'm also wondering if the image can perhaps be sized dynamically to its content box. Currently (on my screen), the image is so big compared to the box that some of the rows next to it have only a single word, which looks bad. Alternatively, we could make the featured content box wider and make the "main areas of the wiki" table more compact instead.--Vellidragon (talk) 03:22, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

2024 Changes

In January 2024, I'm going to be starting a grifkuba-wide effort to revise many of the skins on wikis that we host. If you would like to be part of the conversation, please join us on the grifkuba discord server. Tacopill (talk) 00:32, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

Do you think we could try making a favicon for the website?

Ghost writer (talk) 01:41, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

I can think of 2 options for a favicon. The 1 UP icon and the Metall we use for the site logo. Tacopill (talk) 14:32, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

In that case, I actually have a 1-up favicon I sent to grifkuba over discord. Would you like me to add it to the drive? Ghost writer (talk) 15:25, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

You can, but I'm going to give other people more time to respond before making it so. Tacopill (talk) 17:50, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
