A Nightmare Soul (ナイトメアソウル)[1][2] is an item unique to Mega Man X6. It is a DNA-like energy source produced by the Nightmare that can increase X and Zero's Hunter Rank when collected.
In the Games
Mega Man X6
In Mega Man X6, the term Nightmare Soul is coined by Alia after X collects them from defeating Nightmare Viruses.[3] Doing so increases the player character's Hunter Rank, which allows them to equip more Parts. While the existence of Nightmare Souls is not directly explained in-game, Dynamo, who is collecting them to grow stronger, calls them DNA Souls, implying some sort of connection.[4][5]
There are four types of Nightmare Souls in the game:
