A Nightmare Soul (ナイトメアソウル)^[1] are items unique to Mega Man X6. They are energy sources left by the Nightmare that increase X and Zero's Hunter Rank.

There are four types of Nightmare Souls in the game:

Type	Image	Worth	Description
Blue (Large)		8	It appears when a Nightmare Virus is destroyed. If left for too long, it degrades into a smaller version.
Blue (Small)	File:MMX6 - Nightmare Soul (Blue 2).gif	4	It appears when a Nightmare Virus is destroyed, but not collected fast enough. If left for too long, it revives the Nightmare Virus entirely.
Green		200	It appears when the player defeats one of the eight Nightmare Investigator bosses in under 90 seconds, or if they strike Dynamo using his weakness, Meteor Rain/Ensuizan.
Red		100	It appears when the player defeats one of the eight Nightmare Investigator bosses in over 90 seconds.
