Tacopill’s hypothesis

Structure

There’s 2 “major” universes and quite a few “minor” universes.

Of the “major ones”, the one focused on Robotics (called “ROB”) and one focused on Networking (called “NET”). Some of the “minor ones” branched off of a major one, and therefore carry part of their name with them.

As an example, the universes for the Ruby-Spears animated series and Fully Charged animated series branched off of ROB, so they get named ROB-2 and ROB-3, with the original being called ROB-1. The future Mega Man visited in “Future Shock”, if it wasn’t erased by Mega Man returning to the present, can be called ROB-2A or ROB-4.

Super Smash Bros., by contrast, is in its own universe that doesn’t really mesh with the above, so gets the name SSB

Ami’s hypothesis

Structure

Like Tacopill's hypothesis, theres 2 main big timelines where everything branches off of. The orginal timeline where the Classic Mega Man timeline starts and other robots are in the real world, and the Battle Network Timeline where theres advancements in the net, and robotics is pushed away. It should be noted these are 2 separate universes that dont branch from a single universe as a common misconception is that it's a timeline split regarding Dr. Light pursuing robotics or the Net. We know this as they both have different established histories that would be unaffected by this and Duo is the biggest example of how their histories are different as in the Net timeline he's a digital being like everyone else unlike the Original Robotics Timeline where he's a physical robot like the rest. Battle Network is officially considered to be a parallel universe which is why they have many parallels but are ultimately separate.

Despite this, They still very much exist in the Multiverse. The Multiverse in explored first in Xover and is further expanded in XDiVE. In Xover the description of the game on its website translates to:

"A world where all the Mega Man worlds have crossed over!

Mega Man and his heroes have been trapped in a space-time limbo by Dr. Wily, Sigma, and other villains of the past!

Dr. Light and Dr. Cossacks jointly develop a new robot to deal with this crisis. The robot is a mass-produced model with unlimited potential to enhance itself by using "battle memories" scattered around the world.

Players will fight evil in this world as the new robot. Create your own Mega Man and protect world peace with your friends"

This is rather obscure information but it should be noted Xover is officially treated as a canon game to take place within the Robotics Timeline. Its description also notes that the various Mega Man Universes and timelines are brought together in this title in the Mega Man & Mega Man X: Official Complete Works.

Next we have XDiVE that elaborates on the multiverse and how it works in a more beyond the Multiverse way.

Firstly regarding its canonicity as it is commonly doubted due to being a mobile game, XDiVE is officially considered to be a chapter within the Mega Man X series. This makes sense as the entire reason the game happens is due to the Robot Destroy Program that eventually turned into the Sigma Virus created by Dr. Wily went out of control and taking over ViA the previous administrator of the Deep Log. Lastly, a major plot point of the game involves the new characters being canonized by RiCO to exist within the Mega Man Verse. Everything that happens within X-Dive also is able to exist without disturbing the canon as all the interactions and events that occur between characters throughout the verse are all turned into what-if timelines. The player successfully restores the Deep Log, returning it to its initial state prior so in the end nothing really changes outside of the new characters being canonized.

Now that we have canonicity down, lets get into what it introduces.
