Wheel Gator, known as Wheel Alligates (ホイール・アリゲイツ) in Japan, is a Maverick from the X era, first appearing as one of the main bosses in Mega Man X2. He is a spike-themed Reploid based on an alligator, who hides underwater to ambush targets with his jaws. He is an SA-Class Maverick who was formerly a Maverick Hunter in the 6th Naval Unit.

Wheel Gator debuts in Mega Man X2 as one of the eight Mavericks on the Stage Select screen. He serves as the boss of Dinosaur Tank Stage. The Japanese game manual explains that he is a former Maverick Hunter of the 6th Naval Unit who joined Sigma's rebellion, and is now bulldozing an entire city using a giant dinosaur-shaped tank.[2]

Wheel Gator spends large portions of the battle underwater, attempting to ambush the player and crowding the arena with bladed wheels. Defeating Wheel Gator grants X the Spin Wheel. His weakness is the Strike Chain, from Wire Sponge, which briefly stuns him in place. A boss attack rematch with Wheel Gator later occurs in X-Hunter Stage 4.

In Mega Man Xtreme, Wheel Gator returns as a digitized Maverick in the Mother Computer. He is one of the four bosses in Hard Mode, being the boss of Dinosaur Tank Stage. He again yields Spin Wheel to X, but because Wire Sponge is not in the game, Gator is instead weak to Magna Centipede's Magnet Mine. Wheel Gator is later part of the boss attack in Sigma Stage 3.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection Gallery Gator was second-in-command of the 6th Naval Unit until during a mission, he got caught up in a frenzy of destruction and turned his weapons on his fellow Hunters. He became a fugitive, fleeing the very Hunters he had once commanded. Working under Sigma has proven to be ideal for Gator, as he can slaughter and destroy to his heart's content. Recently he has acquired the means to enact even greater devastation: a massive land-based mobile fortress.
