Flame Mammoth, known as Burnin' Noumander (バーニン・ナウマンダー) in Japan, is a Maverick from the X era, first appearing as one of the main bosses in Mega Man X. He is a fire-themed Reploid based on a mammoth, with a heavyweight body and oil and flame weapons.

Like the rest of the Mavericks in the first game, he was previously part of the Maverick Hunters, specifically serving in the 4th Land Unit.

In the Games

Mega Man X

Flame Mammoth debuts in Mega Man X as one of the eight Mavericks on the Stage Select screen. He serves as the boss of Factory Stage. The Japanese game manual states he is a former Maverick Hunter of the 4th Land Unit who joined Sigma's rebellion, and has taken over an industrial factory in order to use it to make weapons.[4]

Flame Mammoth's attacks are slow and relatively easy to avoid, making him one of the game's easier bosses. Defeating Flame Mammoth grants X the Fire Wave. His weakness is the Storm Tornado, from Storm Eagle, which simply deals increased damage. A boss attack rematch with Flame Mammoth later occurs in Sigma Stage 3, being the last of the eight.

Mega Man Xtreme 2

In Mega Man Xtreme 2, Flame Mammoth returns as a resurrected Maverick guardian of Laguz Island. He is one of the four bosses in X Mission, being the boss of Factory Stage. His defeat gives X and Zero the same Special Weapon, Fire Wave, though it functions differently from in Mega Man X. He is weak to X's Marine Tornado and Zero's Fish Fang. Flame Mammoth is later part of the boss attack in the Sigma Stage in Extreme Mode.

Mega Man Maverick Hunter X

In the remake Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Flame Mammoth receives a redesign but plays largely the same role as in Mega Man X, being the boss of Prototype Weapons Plant. He is a bully who uses Sigma's rebellion as an excuse to exert his size and strength however he pleases.

In battle, Mammoth is still weak to X's Storm Tornado and yields Fire Wave upon his defeat, while for Vile he is weak to weapons obtained from Storm Eagle (Banzai Beetle, Longshot Gizmo, Straight Nightmare, Splash Hit, Bang Away Bomb) and yields the Flamethrower weapon system. In Hard Mode, he gains a new blue fire attack that creates huge fireballs without requiring oil first. Mammoth's boss attack rematch later occurs in Sigma Palace 3.

Mega Man X DiVE

In Mega Man X DiVE, Maverick Data of Flame Mammoth appears as the final boss of Chapter 12 in Story Mode, being fought in Power Control Center 12-6.

A variant of Flame Mammoth called Summer Mammoth appeared in the Summer 2021 event, Summer Treasure Hunt. He fights with summer and water attacks instead of fire attacks.

Mega Man Maverick Hunter X manual Leader of the 4th Land Battalion, Flame Mammoth used to be stationed in the Middle East. Hearing of Sigma's rebellion, he dreamt of getting an even tighter grasp on his own potential power and of going on violent rampages, and decided to join the rebellion. He enjoys crushing and humiliating anyone weaker than himself and was hated by the Reploids who served under him. This is why none of his battalion followed him to join in the rebellion. He plans on letting his firepower do the talking, taking over an industrial area, and turning it all into weapons manufacturing.

"Inafune did Eagle and Penguin, Kaji designed Mandrill, Octopus, and Chameleon. Mammoth, Armadillo, and Kuwanger were Tazaki's. Even as I watched them work, I could really see each of their distinct flavors coming out in their illustrations." - (Tatsuya Yoshikawa)[3]
