Wave Man (or Waveman) is a Robot Master appearing in Mega Man 5. He is one of the Robot Masters ostensibly working for Proto Man in a bid for world domination, though like the others, he is later revealed to have been created by Dr. Wily.

Wave Man is a water-themed robot with a blue and golden colour scheme, flippers, an oxygen hose connected to his mouth and a crown on his helmet, evoking the image of an undersea king. His weapon arm contains a harpoon, which he fires to attack, and he can also cause water spouts to erupt from the ground.

Mega Man 5

Boss sprite from Mega Man 5.

In Mega Man 5, Wave Man is one of the main eight Robot Master bosses and appears as the sixth choice (in reading order) on the stage select screen. Oddly, his stage contains no actual underwater sections, but is set around a waterworks featuring pipes, bubbles and a unique Jet Ski segment.

In battle, Wave Man's pattern is predictable, consisting of pounding the ground to make a water spout rise up at a semi-random position, then launching his harpoon straight forward and almost immediately jumping towards Mega Man. The spout not only harms Mega Man, but will also deflect his shots, which can make Wave Man hard to hit during the only time he is not jumping.

Wave Man's weakness is the Charge Kick from Charge Man, which deals 4 damage per hit, though using it against him can be risky, as it requires Mega Man to slide into him and offers no protection from the water spouts. Defeating him grants Mega Man the Water Wave.

Trivia

  • Wave Man is one of four Robot Masters from Mega Man 5 never to appear in a Game Boy series game, due to Mega Man IV containing only half of the game's Robot Masters and Mega Man V abandoning the concept of recycling bosses rather than featuring the other half. The other three are Gravity Man, Star Man and Gyro Man.
