Toxic Seahorse debuts in Mega Man X3 as one of the eight Mavericks on the Stage Select screen. He is a stealth Reploid shrouded in mystery who joined the Doppler Army in Dopple Town, and serves as the boss of Giant Dam Stage. His movement is simple, but his bouncing acid balls can be disorienting. Defeating Toxic Seahorse grants X the Acid Burst. His weakness is the Frost Shield, from Blizzard Buffalo, which briefly stuns him. A boss attack rematch with Toxic Seahorse later occurs in Doppler Stage C.

The massive Monarch Dam is an important water source in its own right, but it also acts as a hub for remotely controlling many dams at once. Seahorse has taken control of this system to cut off the water supply to human cities. Many will perish of thirst unless he is stopped.
Seahorse is unique in that his body is made of a malleable 'liquid metal,' enabling him to blend into the walls and floor to avoid detection. He is also a master of manipulating water. Of course, there's only one way to deal with an enemy who turns into liquid...

A Reploid composed of special liquified metal can sink into terrain. His acid bomb also has rebound and splash characteristics, which increases the difficulty of avoiding it.

Behind the Scenes

Developer Commentary

"Inafune was the one checking my work on Seahorse. He really twisted my arm on that one, and kept saying 'Make him longer!' Personally, I always thought of seahorses as cute little creatures that are tucked into a compact, little twist shape, but Inafune just kept saying, 'Longer! Longer!' (laughs) I guess Inafune wanted Seahorse to be longer to balance out with the other boss characters, because he kept pushing me and saying, 'I know you can go longer!' (laughs)" - (Tatsuya Yoshikawa)[1]
