Toad Man (or Toadman) is a Robot Master first appearing in Mega Man 4 and is one of the eight Robot Masters originally built by Dr. Cossack.

Toad Man is a rain-themed robot based on a green toad, with his eyes located inside the animal motif's "mouth". His weapon, Rain Flush, allows him to call down a shower of acid rain by performing a rain dance.

In the Games

Mega Man 4

Boss sprite from Mega Man 4.

In Mega Man 4, Toad Man is one of the main eight Robot Master bosses and appears as the sixth choice (in reading order) on the stage select screen. His stage is set in rainy and sewer environments, with wind and water that can push Mega Man away.

In battle, Toad Man has two main attacks: he may jump towards Mega Man's position, or attempt to use his signature weapon by performing a jig, which calls down acid rain if successful that deals unavoidable damage to Mega Man. Hurting him in the middle of his dance interrupts it and prevents the rain from appearing; as this usually leads to him attempting the same move again, interrupting it repeatedly can render him virtually harmless.

Toad Man's weakness is the Drill Bomb from Drill Man, which deals 4 damage per hit, although any damaging weapon - including the basic Mega Buster - can interrupt him. Defeating him grants Mega Man his Rain Flush weapon and Rush Marine.

Mega Man IV

Boss sprite from Mega Man IV.

Toad Man returns as one of the first batch of Robot Masters fought in Mega Man IV. His abilities are the same, but he can no longer be tricked into an infinite loop of attempting to use his Rain Flush attack, as he will always jump when shot at. This happens as soon as the shot is fired, so Mega Man needs to stand close or shoot during a jump to prevent Toad Man from jumping over his attacks.

As Drill Man does not appear in this game, Toad Man is left without any notable weakness, though he takes 2 points of damage from the Napalm Bomb (which is only acquired in the second half of the game) and from his own weapon in the rematch.

Battle Network era

Toad Man has a Net Navi equivalent in ToadMan.EXE, with a "cuter" and less bulky take on his frog design. He first appears in Mega Man Battle Network 2 as an optional friendly opponent, working with the newscaster Ribitta.

Other Media

1994 animated series

Toad Man appears in Robosaur Park, the 5th episode of the 1994 animated series. His design is similar to the games, but he has been given a visible mouth that often sports a toothy grin and contains a long, pointed tongue. He also has his Rain Flush ability, though he has to launch an exploding rocket into the sky to trigger the acid rain, similar to Mega Man using his weapon in the games.

Official Data

Mega Man & Bass CD

In Mega Man & Bass, Toad Man's CD is located in the Robot Museum, in the section that is based on his original stage. Only Mega Man can find it, by digging it up with Rush Search.

Notes

  1. The ending of Mega Man 4 lists several Robot Masters with numbers that are inconsistent with the serial numbers provided in later materials (such as the Japanese version of Mega Man & Bass's CD Data Base), despite showing them in the order of their later numbers. Toad Man's number here is given as 29, while 26 is assigned to Pharaoh Man instead.
