Template talk:Character Infobox

From Mega Man Wiki

Break up

Should this be broken up into multiple infoboxes? if so, which ones? Tacopill (talk) 23:31, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

What I noticed is that the infobox has fields like weakness, stage, weapon (implying weapon given on defeat) that are kinda specifically about bosses, and more specifically Robot Masters or main Mavericks. Instinctively, I would have used a "Character" infobox on articles like Mega Man, Dr. Light or Kalinka, who don't need these fields, and would have expected Robot Masters to either have their own infobox or a "Boss" one.
Considering there's a lot of sub-series to deal with that have their own concepts and terminology, it could make sense to just have a bunch of more specific infoboxes for the major concepts from each sub-series. E.g. Robot Master, Maverick, Mutos Reploid, NetNavi, etc. And keep a generic Character and generic Boss one for anything that doesn't fit these. There would be redundancy, but I don't think that should be a big concern. Imo it just feels more intuitive to have an infobox for the specific kind of thing someone is making an article on, e.g. "this is a Robot Master so I'm placing the Robot Master infobox", rather than having to figure out which one has the right fields that work. And it also helps that the infobox has a heading that says what kind of article it is (and they can possibly be customised in appearance individually later).--Vellidragon (talk) 02:15, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Possibly related, I've been thinking the character infobox should have a field for relatives or something like that. This would be particularly useful for alternative continuitiy characters - bonus points if we can name it such that we can squeeze a NetNavi in there without needing a separate field. In a potential separate infobox for Robot Masters, this can be changed to their creator (in-game), as they tend not to have any other "relatives". Whatever infobox ends up on these pages also should have a field for the (real life) designer of the character/boss (bosses often come from design contest submissions and are credited to their designers in-game).--Vellidragon (talk) 19:01, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

EDIT: Also a species or similar field for the Character infobox. Could even list things like "dog robot" for Rush. This would be superfluous on a Robot Master infobox, but a Maverick (or Reploid?) infobox could list the base animal/plant/other.--Vellidragon (talk) 19:12, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
