Ice Man (or Iceman) is a Robot Master first appearing in the original Mega Man, where he is one of the robots built by Dr. Light and stolen by Dr. Wily. He was designed for exploration in cold regions, but reprogrammed into a fighter by Wily.

Ice Man is a humanoid robot wearing a blue parka and a belt. His weapon, the Ice Slasher, allows him to spit ice shots from his mouth, though it works as a freeze ray when used by Mega Man.

In the Games

Mega Man

Boss sprite from Mega Man.

In the original Mega Man, Ice Man is one of the main six Robot Masters, appearing fourth (in reading order) on the stage select screen. His stage appears to be set in a former tropical location that has frozen over, featuring water, Appearing Blocks and Footholder platforms.

In battle, Ice Man has a simple behaviour that he repeats endlessly, jumping straight up into the air and launching three ice shot forward in a consistent pattern from top to bottom, then jumping again and repeating the pattern in reverse. He also slides closer between attack cycles, but slides further away again after doing so twice. This can alter the timeframe for dodging his shots, which deal 10 damage to Mega Man, but does not change the pattern itself.

Ice Man is weak to Thunder Beam, which deals 10 damage to him, and he also takes 4 damage from the Hyper Bomb and 2 from Rolling Cutter. Defeating him grants Mega Man the Ice Slasher, though it only freezes most enemies rather than harming them.

Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge

Boss sprite from Dr. Wily's Revenge.

Ice Man is part of the first batch of Robot Masters in Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, appearing in the bottom-right corner on the stage select screen. His stage is another ice-themed one, with an emphasis on maneuvering underground and taking advantage of level architecture, such as icicles.

Though he is fought in a smaller space, Ice Man is weaker than before, with only two ice shots in his pattern, which he repeats in identical form. The shots also deal only 8 points of damage, though Mega Man's health pool is smaller in this game. His weakness remains the Thunder Beam, which now deals 8 damage to him, while the Rolling Cutter still deals 2.

Mega Man: The Wily Wars

The Wily Wars sprite.

Like other bosses from his game, Ice Man appears in the Mega Man 1 remake of Mega Man: The Wily Wars, with no major changes apart from updated graphics and receiving his own stage portrait.

Mega Man Soccer

RUN KIK TAC DIF

Ice Man is one of the available players in Mega Man Soccer, tied with Gemini Man for the highest RUN stat (apart from Dr. Wily), but having the worst TAC (tackle) and DIF (defence) by a large margin. His special is to pair the ball with the Ice Slasher, freezing an enemy for 2 seconds.

Battle Network era

Ice Man has a NetNavi equivalent in IceMan.EXE, a smaller and cuter version of his Robot Master design. He debuts as a main boss in the original Mega Man Battle Network, operated by Dr. Froid, but becomes an ally later in the game.

In the 1994 animated series, Ice Man appears in the intro and first episode, The Beginning, as well as the later season 1 episode Ice Age. He wears a pair of goggles here and his mouth cannot move, glowing instead when he talks. He seems to have a rivalry with Air Man, whom he mistrusts.
