Gigabolt Man-O-War, known as Gigabolt Dokragen (ギガボルト・ドクラーゲン)[6] in Japan, is a Maverick from the X era, appearing as one of the main bosses in Mega Man X8. He is an electricity-themed Reploid based on a man-of-war, who attacks with jellyfish drones and lightning. He is a new generation Reploid who worked in power supply maintenance for a city called Megalopolis.

In the Games

Mega Man X8

Gigabolt Man-O-War debuts in Mega Man X8 as one of the eight Mavericks on the Stage Select screen. He is a new generation Reploid who rebels by siphoning energy away from Megalopolis and towards the rebellion instead, serving as the boss of the Dynasty stage. He floats for the entire battle, launching lightning attacks, tackles, and summoning jellyfish drones. Defeating Gigabolt Man-O-War grants Thunder Dancer to X, Raikousen to Zero, and Plasma Gun to Axl. His weakness is the Crystal Wall, Rekkyoudan, or Bound Blaster from Earthrock Trilobyte, which briefly stuns him. A boss attack rematch with Gigabolt Man-O-War later occurs in the Gateway stage.

Other Media

  • In the Archie Mega Man comic, Gigabolt Man-O-War appears in the "Worlds Unite" arc as one of the Mavericks resurrected in Sigma's army.

High Voltage Drifter
Gigabolt Man-O-War
Works supplying energy to the city's urban areas. Has an inactive and laidback personality, but that's the nature of his job. Like a child, when he gets interested in something, he loses sight of everything else.[4][7]

Behind the Scenes

Nomenclature

Language Name Origin
Japanese Gigabolt Dokragen (ギガボルト・ドクラーゲン) "Dokragen" is a portmanteau of three Japanese words: "doku" () meaning venom, "kurage" (くらげ) meaning jellyfish, and "kurāken" (クラーケン) meaning kraken.
English Gigabolt Man-O-War / Gigavolt Man-o-war "Man-O-War" refers to the man-of-war, a jellyfish-like hydrozoan.
There is some inconsistency in his English name. There is no "v" sound in Japanese, so the "b" sound is often used instead, leading to alternate translations. As neither option was settled on, his game start in Mega Man X8 calls him Gigabolt, while the game's manual and cutscenes call him Gigavolt instead. There is also inconsistency in how "Man-O-War" is capitalized.
