Foot Holder[1] is an enemy first appearing in the original Mega Man. It is a platform with eyes and a propeller at the bottom, which it uses to hover around, shooting from the little cannons on both sides of its body.

In the Games

Mega Man

Sprite from Mega Man.

In Mega Man, Foot Holders appear prominently in a section of Ice Man Stage and later in Dr. Wily stage 1. They serve as platforms that fly in random, diagonal and horizontal zig-zag paths and occasionally fire shots to both sides simultaneously. Mega Man must use them to cross a wide chasm in bot hof their appearances (unless he bypasses them with the Magnet Beam); in the Wily stage, the chasm is filled with spikes and there are spikes on the ceiling, which a Foot Holder might carry Mega Man up into.

Foot Holders cannot be harmed (shots go through them), and touching their bodies or their shots deals 3 damage to Mega Man. Due to an engine quirk, Mega Man can sometimes take a hit from a Foot Holder's shots when landing on top of it, causing him to fall through and to his death. Combined with their movements being entirely random and not guaranteed to take Mega Man across either chasm, this makes them unreliable to use for their intended purpose and rewards use of the Magnet Beam.

Official Data

Foot Holder appears under "Mega Man" in the Database in Mega Man Legacy Collection.

An elevator robot, originally. Its random movement patterns make it quite annoying. Try to figure out the timing of its shots.

Related Enemies

A few other enemies have explored the concept of a shooting platform.

  • Hover (Mega Man 4) - A platform that shoots sideways and goes right after stepping on it.
  • Properide (Mega Man 7) - A platform that moves back and forth and can carry a junk block, which shoots sideways.
